Cedar Isle runs weekly small-group sessions built around the topic your child is actually stuck on. Every lane keeps to six students, follows a written plan, and sends a short progress note home every fortnight.
01 — How a term runs
Nothing starts with a sales call. We look at recent work, place your child in the right lane, and keep the same tutor for the whole term so the thread is never dropped.
Step 01
A twenty-minute chat about the current topic list, the last two assessments and what homework actually looks like at home.
Step 02
We suggest a lane by year level and topic, not by age alone. You see the written term plan before you commit to a seat.
Step 03
Thirty minutes of teaching, forty-five of guided practice, fifteen of marking together so errors are corrected while they are fresh.
Step 04
One page: topics covered, what improved, what is still shaky, and the two things to practise before the next session.
02 — Subject lanes
A lane is a fixed weekly group with a set syllabus thread. Students can sit in more than one lane, and switching lanes mid-term is free if the fit is wrong.
Place value, fractions, times tables and worded problems, rebuilt from whichever step broke first. Heavy on spoken reasoning and short written drills.
Algebra, functions, trigonometry and calculus foundations, tracked against the school's own topic order so sessions stay a week ahead rather than behind.
Comprehension, essay structure, text analysis and editing. Students bring a current school task; we plan it, draft it, then mark it against the real rubric.
Junior science concepts, then senior chemistry and physics problem sets, paired with timed practice, mark-scheme reading and a revision routine that fits a school week.
03 — Weekly timetable
Every session below is a 90-minute lane. Seats are held for the whole term, so the same six students work together each week.
Sessions pause during the mid-term break week. In the four weeks before senior exams, Thursday and Saturday lanes switch to timed paper practice at the same times — no change to fees or seats.
04 — Inside the centre
The centre is one teaching room and one small study room. There are no screens running in the background and no shared headsets — just worked problems on paper, a board, and a tutor who can see every page.
A printed problem set for the week's topic, a worked-examples sheet to keep, and the last fifteen minutes spent marking in red together so the correction is understood, not just recorded.
All practice material is written in-house and included. Students bring their own school workbook and any marked assessment — that marking tells us more about the gap than a diagnostic test does.
A one-page note every fortnight, plus a short end-of-term summary with the topic list for next term. If something slips mid-week, you hear from the tutor rather than finding out at the end.
05 — Who you'll work with
Your child keeps the same tutor for the full term. Tutors write their own lane plans and their own progress notes, so the person teaching is the person reporting.
Teaches backwards from the question: reads the mark scheme first, then builds the method. Strong with students who can do the steps but lose marks in the setting-out.
Works from the student's own draft rather than model essays. Plans, cuts and re-sequences paragraphs on paper so the structure is visible before the sentences get polished.
Patient with the early gaps — place value, fractions, units — and insistent on explaining out loud. Keeps sessions short in format and long on practice.
06 — Questions parents ask
Yes. You can book one full 90-minute trial in the lane we recommend, with the tutor your child would keep. We send the progress note from that session whether or not you take the seat, so you leave with something useful either way.
Each student has two make-up seats per term, used in a matching Saturday lane. Reply to your tutor's fortnightly note and they will hold one. Beyond two, we send the week's problem set and worked examples so the thread isn't lost.
It is a planned lane that stays close to school work. Students bring their current topic and marked assessments, and roughly a third of each session goes to the task in front of them. We don't simply finish homework for the week.
In the four weeks before senior exams, Thursday and Saturday lanes switch to timed paper practice with mark-scheme review at the same times. Junior lanes keep their normal plan, with one revision week added before school assessments.
Switching lanes mid-term costs nothing. If a student is placed too high or too low, the tutor flags it in the first fortnight and we move them to a better match, keeping the same evening wherever the timetable allows.
Where seats allow, we timetable siblings back to back so there's a single trip. The waiting student can use the study room with a tutor on call. Tell us both year levels in your enquiry and we'll check the fit first.
07 — Request a place
Send the details below and a tutor replies with the lane we'd suggest, the session time, and whether a seat is free this term.
